Cookie policy

The short version

This site sets one cookie. It records the choice you made when the consent notice appeared, so that we do not ask again on every page and so that we honour what you decided. It holds one word, either all or essential, and nothing that identifies you. It lasts six months. There is no advertising cookie, no remarketing pixel, no social network tracker and no cross site profiling on this website.

What a cookie is

A cookie is a small text file that a website asks your browser to keep. The Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations 2003 require consent before a site stores anything on your device that is not strictly necessary for a service you have asked for. A cookie recording your own consent choice falls inside the strictly necessary exemption, which is why it is set whichever button you press, and we describe it here rather than rely on the exemption quietly.

Local storage

Alongside the cookie the site keeps the same one word choice in your browser’s local storage, so that clearing one does not silently undo the other. Local storage is never sent to our server. If you browse in a private window, or your browser blocks storage, the site still works and the notice simply appears again next time.

Third party content

The home page and the contact page both embed a map supplied by Google. That map does not load at all unless you choose to allow it. If you pressed essential only, or have not answered the notice yet, the map is replaced by a panel showing the address as plain text and a button that loads the map for that visit alone. Once it loads, Google may set its own cookies and will receive your IP address, and that processing is governed by Google’s privacy policy rather than ours.

Fonts

Typefaces are requested from Google Fonts. That is a request for a stylesheet and font files, not a tracking script, but it does mean your IP address reaches Google’s servers when a page loads. We list it here for completeness.

Changing your mind

To change your mind, delete this site’s cookies and site data in your browser, usually under privacy or site settings, and the notice will appear again on your next visit so you can choose differently. Blocking our cookie has no effect beyond the notice reappearing every time.
