Tell us what happened, in a paragraph

The first call lasts about fifteen minutes and costs nothing. You can telephone during the working week, or send the outline below and we will ring you back at a time you choose. Either way you will get a straight answer about whether there is anything in it, including when the answer is no.

Enquiry form

Nothing here is compulsory except a name, a way of replying and a description. We do not need documents at this stage and please do not attach identity documents.

Dates are worth more than adjectives here. When you bought or signed, when the problem appeared, and when you last heard from the other side.

Sending this does not create any professional relationship and nothing is charged. We reply to everything, including matters we cannot take.

Before you get in touch, two useful checks

Is there a free route you have not used

If the other side is a member of an ombudsman or redress scheme, that route is free and often quicker than anything we would charge for. Financial Ombudsman Service for regulated credit and insurance, The Motor Ombudsman for participating dealers, and a property redress scheme for letting and estate agents. If you tell us the company name we will say on the call whether one applies.

How old is the problem

Limitation is the thing people find out about too late. A claim on a simple contract runs out six years from the breach under section 5 of the Limitation Act 1980, and a complaint to the Financial Ombudsman must normally reach them within six months of the firm’s final response. If your date is close, say so at the top of your message and we will look at it first.
